    Hi,

Could someone check my chapters in https://storyfall.nl/interreg/?p=6 ?
There’s some raw code that I can’t get out of the chapter titles.
No idea what I’m doing wrong.

BTW I post this in Novella though my site is in Kerouac, but the problem first surfaced in Novella. Needless to say, it’s theme-independent.

    Boris.

    Hey Boris!
That’s pretty odd. Does this happen with all plugins deactivated other than Aesop Story Engine and Kerouac?

Yes, I’m afraid it does. I don’t know how you’d say ‘other than kerouac’ because Kerouac’s not a plugin, is it? But I deac’d all plugs except Aesop and still the bonkers code. Did you see it? It’s only there in the Chapters Menu, not in the titles themselves. And a second installation at http://www.storyfall.nl doesn’t have it… I’m going to see what else I can do to reproduce or eliminate the error.

Switching to Twenty Fourteen eliminates the visible error because it eliminates all Aesop components. Duh.
But then it’s obvious that it’s really part of the chapters error. Since it happens under Kerouac as well as Novella, it’s theme-independent.
    Deac’ing Aesop, then re-ac’ing doesn’t change anything.

Nick… I really would like to resolve this error. I need Aesop to make my client happy. What should i do?

    Nick,

I went ahead and installed a whole new instance of WP 4.0 on a new subdomain. Installed only Aesop and Kerouac. Pasted my article.
Look at it – Jquery jibberish.

Then I went to my old first Storyfall – about biomass. It never had the Jqeury garbage. I copied its content into a test article.
    No jibberish in the chapters.

I added a chapter component. BAM.

So, my conclusion: it happens in any of my new and existing WP instances, only when I add a new chapter component. How is the new chapter component code different from the old one? There’s your bug.

    Boris,
I believe I’ve fixed this. You can copy and paste the contents of this file with your chapter-heading.php file located in aesop-story-engine/public/components/component-heading.php

    https://github.com/bearded-avenger/aesop-core/blob/7aa3f85ad36cfbf3dbf805c9ef026a21ed5d56e5/public/includes/components/component-heading.php

There is no chapter-heaading.php in dir components. There is only component-heading.php. I assume that’s what you mean, since the code is quite similar to the github code.

So far, seems there’s no change though. I’ve emptied the cache, logged out of WP… no change. The filestamp in the remote dir says the file is changed, but the Jquery gibberish remains.

    Boris,
My apologies. The location of the file is at /public/includes/components/component-heading.php

If you replace the contents of that file with the file that I linked, then it will fix your issue. I was able to produce the code being displayed, then after the fix I made it appears to have fixed it here locally.

Nick, The issue is not fixed at my end.
I replaced component-heading.php with a pasted version, and no change.
There isn’t anything I need to do before WP calls the new component-heading, no?
Do I need to replace all my old chapter components?

Edit: I just did this, I replaced a chapter component with a new one. No change, still code garbage.

And you are sure you githubbed the new code instead of the old code?

I have no idea what is going wrong but no fix…

I checked the site that you linked, and checked the chapter component, and it’s still the old version. I can tell this because the script tag is still in the same location as the old file. Either your site is cached, or the file didnt get replaced for some reason. All I can tell you is that I’m still seeing the old code.

Fine, at least I’m not mad 🙂
    How do I un-cache?

And you are sure that the github-code is not the old code itself? It looks pretty darn similar.

EDIT: My bad! I had replaced the old file in the wrong instance of wordpress. Now it’s clean.
Thank You for the quick response!

Nitpick: Now that it’s fixed, I’d appreciate it if the Chapter Header receded when not needed. It’s kind of in your face in Kerouac.
In Novella, it’s a button that only rolls out the list when clicked. In Kerouac, it’s a fixture. Just a snag. Thanks!

Hi Boris! I have added a feature request for a collapsable chapter menu in Kerouac. Thanks for the idea!

Collapsable, that’s the thingamajig I was looking for. Jargon’s a botch.

Actually, now that there’s a feature request, do you have any idea by what time you’ll get round to such things? because it is rather a thing, with long chapter titles and subtitles. For now, it’s perhaps enough to make me revert to Genji or Novella (though I’d miss some of the cool things about Kerouac then)

lol searching for the right word is always fun. 😉

Feature requests are all up to Nick but rest assured we do have a list of requests for each theme and a lot of them are implemented. Hope that helps!
