I can’t get the Collection component to work.
I have been creating a new page and adding the component to that, but all that appears is the Title of the collection with nothing else?
I would like to make the homepage of the blog go to a specific collection of posts.November 4, 2014 at 8:05 pm #5103
Sorry for the delay in the response here, that’s not normal at all.
Some of the options in the content component in Novella are not utilized at the discretion of the designer. These are documented in the owners manual.
Let us know if this helps!

Yes I have the owner’s manual but the Collection component is not one that is affected in Novella.November 5, 2014 at 11:11 am #5123
Acckk! Greg I’m so sorry about that. We’re short a support person so I rushed through my response. My apologies. Can you paste the shortcode here that you’re using? We can first look to make sure there are no errors within that.November 5, 2014 at 11:14 am #5124
No worries. How do I find the short code?November 5, 2014 at 11:15 am #5125
Good question! While you’re in the WordPress admin editor, if you click the “text” tab then you’ll be shown the “code version” of the component. It will look something like this [aesop_chapter].November 5, 2014 at 11:18 am #5126
It’s this: [aesop_collection title=”Beginnings” collection=”3″ limit=”5″ columns=”1″ splash=”on”]November 5, 2014 at 10:20 pm #5127Jenny @ AesopKeymaster
Hi Greg. When you have splash=”on”, you are telling the collection to only display a listing of categories without images. If you want to display actual blog posts with their images, change splash to “off”.
If that doesn’t help solve your issue, a link to your site would be helpful. 🙂November 7, 2014 at 11:02 am #5160
Okay, so the Collection seems to be working now that I turn Splash off, but the formatting is different than normal. Is there a way to edit how Collection formats the stories?
Here is hte collection page: https://blog.exoprotein.com/current-issue-2/
And here are the stories displayed just by their category: https://blog.exoprotein.com/category/currentissue/November 7, 2014 at 12:27 pm #5164
Here’s a quick screencast to show you what happens when you add a featured image to a page with the collection component added: https://recordit.co/XjBrA8RtUf
Now, a post will have a slightly different parallax effect due to the theme: https://recordit.co/wKB65TFS7A
Was this the formatting you were looking for?November 7, 2014 at 1:49 pm #5168
First of all, thanks so much for the great customer service.
I was talking more about the formatting of the actual posts on the Collection page (specifically the indentation and fonts of the Titles, Authors, and Excerpts.).
Is there a way too:
1. Turn off the Excerpt feature so that the first sentence of each post doesn’t appear.
2. Align the title and the author on the Collection page so that they are as in my second link above.
3. Let me know the html classes for the Title and Author so I can change their fonts?November 7, 2014 at 3:56 pm #5169
Happy to help!
1. If you delete the excerpt in each post below the post editor, that should clear the excerpts.
For 2 and 3, I recommend using a plugin like Simple Custom CSS to customize your CSS (https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/).
Within Chrome, or other browsers, you can use the CSS inspector, which is super easy to use and will make finding the CSS classes that you’ll need when you want to change the design. Here’s a great in-depth article about this: https://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/developertools/part1
Let me know if that helps.November 10, 2014 at 11:52 am #5191
There is no Excerpt section in my post editor. Is that a plugin or something?November 10, 2014 at 1:34 pm #5192
You shouldn’t need a plugin. I made a screencast showing you how to access the excerpt section in the post editor: https://recordit.co/nEdsk2u9jU
Let me know if this helps.November 10, 2014 at 1:37 pm #5193
It may be showing part of the content no matter what’s in the excerpt. I think the best way to hide that would be through some custom css.
