Hi, new to WordPress and using Novella. When I want to edit a component, in this case a chapter, I click the edit icon top right in the chapter block within the visual editor. Make the edits, update the component, and voila … the component disappears. Advice? Thanks.

Hi Todd. Welcome to Aesop! You chose a great theme with Novella. 🙂
After you’ve edited a component, try to hit the “enter” key on your keyboard so the cursor goes outside of the editor box. That should do the trick. Please let me know!October 2, 2014 at 1:45 pm #4613
Please let me know if you still need help with this otherwise I’ll mark it as resolved in a few days. Thanks!October 5, 2014 at 9:39 am #4658
No, not resolved. Even when I edit a Component from a demo post, the Component disappears from the post after clicking ‘Update Component” and then clicking “Update” on the right-hand side of the page (the brown update button).
Seems that what I’m dealing with is a situation in which I need to create a page and not expect to be able to edit it. And that’s not right. Novella is not operating as intended for me, and I’m getting a bit frustrated. May I call someone at the company for 10m, while we’re both in front of computers? That would be optimal.October 7, 2014 at 6:48 pm #4701
Anyone available to take another look at this problem? Thanks. Not resolved.October 7, 2014 at 7:00 pm #4702
OK, I’m trying again. When I attempt to edit a component in Novella, the newly updated component disappears from the previous location, and either appears at the bottom of the post, or, and this is new today, it appears as a sort of Siamese twin to the top component, which is a chapter. This is not how the theme is supposed to work. Very annoying. Can anyone address this for me? Thanks.October 9, 2014 at 8:13 am #4730UConn MAGICParticipant
Just a note that I am also having this issue. Running WordPress 3.9.2 and the newest version of Aesop. But I’ve found that the problem only occurs if you try to edit the component in the “Visual” tab. I was using the character component and clicked the editing pencil icon. Changed a property and clicked update component. When I did so, WordPress moved the component to the very top of my post, whereas before it had been near the bottom.
To get around this issue, you can click on the “Text” tab and edit the component properties that way using HTML and by referencing the help center documents that list and describe the properties of each component: e.g., https://aesopstoryengine.com/help/character-component/
I’ve found that by doing this the location will be maintained. But still annoying.

Hi Todd and UConn!
I’ve spoke with our developers and this has in fact been confirmed as a bug with Aesop Story Engine. The bug is logged in our system and is scheduled to be out with Aesop 1.2.
Thanks for the updates and information!November 29, 2014 at 6:48 pm #5594Jannik JürgensParticipant
Hey Todd, UConn and Jenny,
i am really satisfied with novella but when i am editing components in the visual tab this bug still occurs. Components disappear, change places, etc.
Are you working on fixing it?
Thanks and best regards,

What version of WordPress and Aesop Story Engine are you running?November 30, 2014 at 4:21 pm #5604
This is still an issue for me, too. Running WP 4.0.1, Novella 1.0.5. When I edit a Component, it jumps to the top of the post.

Sorry to hear you’re having troubles. It will be easier to track individual bugs by creating your own threads. Regarding “editing components and it jumping to the top of the post” this is the first report that we’ve heard of this.
It would help us greatly if you could create your own thread, and detail the steps needed in order to replicate the bug you’re seeing.November 30, 2014 at 4:26 pm #5606
Actually, this WAS my thread … started it on September 29.

No worries. Going back to your original post:
1. You edit an existing component (chapter component)
2. You update the component
3. The component disappears
You also posted back saying it jumps to the top of the screen.I just did a quick test and unfortunately I can’t replicate this in any way (we also haven’t had any reports of this happening in roughly two months. There was an issue a few versions back that this happened with, that happened where there were 2 components located back to back, but this was patched as far as we know.
Are all of the above happening?November 30, 2014 at 4:43 pm #5609
Thanks for working with me on this.
Yes; I edit a component (used to be the chapter component, and i would jump to the top of the post. If there was another component at the top of the post, they were adjoining, and I could delete the updated component, and do it all again.
I just put another post on here about the Document Component, and the video component … they don’t work either, and the symptoms are different depending on the browser.
Can I send you a link privately?

Does the video still have issues playing when you use a WordPress video shortcode?[video src=""].December 3, 2014 at 8:40 am #5705
I’m starting to lean towards their being an issue with your video, so I’m curious to hear the results of you trying with a [video] shortcode. I loaded up the video component locally in Novella, self-hosted, and checked in all browsers and could not replicate any of these issues with the video not playing, and I’m also using am MP4 file.December 4, 2014 at 10:17 pm #5720
I think you’re right .. I linked to a Youtube vid and things seem to be normal now …
-TDecember 5, 2014 at 11:09 am #5732
Great to hear that YouTube is working. If you ever want to use a self hosted vid in the video component of Aesop and you run into an issue, you might test with the WP video shortcode as shown here (http://codex.wordpress.org/Video_Shortcode) to make sure that everything is working.
Cheers on the day!
