Hello,
I’m curious if you support per media captions in galleries. In particular, in lightbox mode, using the grid style.
Currently, as work around, I’m using the media title and editing the jquery swipebox JS, manually setting hideBarsDelay to 0. Would you consider implementing per media caption support, or perhaps, exposing hideBarsDelay as a user-facing option?
Mahalo,
KimonKeymasterHi Kimon,
Currently the Grid gallery supports media captions, like the following. But not in the lightbox. The lightbox would display the media title.I am afraid adding the caption in addition to the title to the lightbox would require modifying the lightbox script.
ParticipantGlad I didn’t miss something. From a UX perspective, it feels a little odd to have less information when you go full screen. Ideally the caption + nav controls would be a toggle able overlay. That said, using the Title is a fine workaround. Is it somehow possible to parameterize the hideBarsDelay value, or for me to gracefully override? Looking to exit the business of manually editing minified JS, in production, on every Aesop update =D
ParticipantI’m new to Aesop and somewhat new to WordPress. Thanks for the work on this — it’s overall quite lovely!
The limits of the gallery click behavior and lightboxes in Aesop are probably my biggest challenge getting it to work well on my site. I’d love more control over what is shown in the lightbox, perhaps like dFactory’s Responsive Lightbox plugin. Additionally, it would be great to have it work with the Gallery Link plugin, so that I could set gallery images to link to an external site.
KeymasterHi Sean, I can’t give you an ETA but adding this feature will definitely go into the “To Do” list. Thank you for your support.
KeymasterHi all,
New options to select ligthbox text (title, caption, description or title+caption) have been added to grid and photoset galleries. Check out the latest ASE version (1.9.8) Than you for your supports and patience. I hope to add the external link options in a future version.Hyun

ParticipantThanks for your continued effort.
Unfortunately, since this update, I keep getting an “undefined” JavaScript alert, over and over, when I load a post with galleries. I do not have this problem when I load a post without galleries. I’m using Safari on MacOS, but I have the same problem in Chrome.
It looks like the problem might be related to it having trouble finding aesop-story-engine/public/assets/js/ai-core.min.js.map ?
KeymasterHi Sean, I can’t reproduce the problem on my end. Do you have a URL where I can see this behavior?
Hyun
ParticipantThis one is doing it for me: https://www.shoulderseason.net/2017/06/18/zion-national-park-a-november-weekend/
I’ve been able to reproduce this with Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. It’s possible there’s an interaction going on with one of the other plugins I am using, but I haven’t been able to track the cause down yet.
KeymasterHi Sean, please try updating to 1.9.8.1.
It should be available now.-

ParticipantHi Hyun,
I just had a chance to update to the latest Aesop and give it a whirl. The changes you made are a nice addition! (I was able to test on Photoset Layout). Using Grid however, I’m having a hard time saving my ‘Lightbox Text’ selection eg if I switch to Title+Caption, Update, the value returns to Title. This happens with an existing Media gallery or newly created.
One additional consideration. My original intent was to have a string that isn’t visible in Grid layout (I find displaying captions inline rather busy) always visible in Lightbox. That could be accomplished with “always show nav bar in lightbox“ setting, and continue to use Title, or conversely “hide captions in grid” setting and use Caption. I’d be interested in hearing your guidance in which you thought was the better direction. And if the later, would this be better served as an Aesop or Theme-specific setting?
Thank you for taking on improvements to Gallery!
KeymasterHi Kimon, I have been occupied with some personal issues but I will try to address your issue in a future version of ASE (hopefully not to far in future). For you question, I would recommend you to use “hide captions in grid”
Hyun
