I created a map on Mapbox and saved the Mapbox ID in Aesop’s “Customize” page. The map shows up when I include Starting Coordinates in the post but when I change the Starting Coordinates the map still shows the same view.
How can one show a different location on a map?

    Hey Souena,
So just to clarify you entered a starting location, and now you cannot change it?

No. As I understand we can use one map per site (by adding its code to Genji’s “customize” page) but we can show different parts of the same map on different posts by saving different “Starting Location” on different posts. Again, as I understand this starting location is in Latitude/Longitude format. Something like “35.709, 51.385”.

If that is correct then I have to be able to show New York’s map on one post and Paris’s map on another by using different Latitude/Longitude numbers on each post. The problem I have is that no matter what Latitude/Longitude I enter as “Starting Location” I still get the same map as it is saved in Mapbox.

Please let me know if I do the process right, or if it should be done in a different way.

I still get the same map as it is saved in Mapbox.

That’s correct. Once you save the map id that’s all you need to do. Mapbox only displays the map tiles, and they are the same for all instances of the map component on your site. Each post can have one map component, with individual markers.

Does this help clear things up?

So what is the use of Starting Locations?

Say for example you have added three markers to a map. You would use the Starting Coordinates to center the map where you’d like it to be over the markers.

That is what I am taking about. I cannot use the Starting Coordinates to center the map where Iā€™d like it to be. No matter what starting coordinates I enter the map is still centered to its default location.

ASE doesn’t supply a default location.

Here I have added a marker, and starting coordinates.

And this shows on the post like so:

Now, I have changed the starting coordinates:

and as you can see, the location that the map is centered on , has changed.

    Is this happening for you?

Sorry, I was away for a few days. Yes, what you show here is what I need but I cannot reproduce it on my site. The map is always the same no matter what starting coordinates or markers I add to the box.

Can you show me a screenshot of your post area in WordPress admin? I would like to see what you have entered for the maps info.

My apologies. My mistake. I sat up the maps incorrectly.
I think I did not understand how the maps work until now.

It’s no problem at all, Souena. šŸ™‚ In the future, most topics are covered in our docs at https://aesopstoryengine.com/documentation
