I’m not having any luck with the installation of a video component in a post in Novella. It’s self hosted, and I end up with a hyperlink to the video in the place where the component should be. I have no idea what the video component should look like, actually, but I’m pretty sure it’s not just a link. Or is it? Thanks, -ToddNovember 13, 2014 at 2:37 pm #5278
Sorry to hear you’re having troubles Todd. Have you checked the documentation for the video component here: https://aesopstoryengine.com/help/video-component
It could be that some of the self video options are not selected. Could you also send a screenshot and/or link to what’s happening?
Keep in touch.November 13, 2014 at 9:05 pm #5304
Here’s a screenshot, but it won’t show you much … just a URL of the self-hosted video.
The code within the post:
[aesop_video width=”content” align=”left” src=”self” hosted=”http://story.bloodreddeathray.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/141111_brdr_gcx.mov” loop=”on” autoplay=”on” controls=”on” viewstart=”on” viewend=”on”]
Back to you,

Thanks for the info.
What theme are you using?November 13, 2014 at 9:44 pm #5309
Novella … sorry, thought that was clear.November 13, 2014 at 10:02 pm #5312
Oh whoops! Totally forgot that we are in the Novella thread.
Let me test this and see what I come up with and then get back to you in the morning.November 13, 2014 at 11:25 pm #5314
What version of Aesop and Novella are you running?
Also, would you change the video width to blank instead of “content” and see if that fixes it?November 14, 2014 at 1:14 pm #5324
Ok. So on further investigation, you cannot have a .mov file as your video format for self hosted videos in WordPress for our video component (see: https://codex.wordpress.org/Video_Shortcode). Do you have a .mp4 of that video? That should work and we can go from there.November 14, 2014 at 9:39 pm #5331
Well, I put up an .mp4, and the frame was created, and the controls showed up, but the vid won’t play. I have tested the vid elsewhere, and it’s valid.
Also: When I try to put up a PDF in a Document Component, the result is a generic icon in the component bar which, when clicked, does nothing. The PDF is a two-page document with no images within.
Finally: When I want to put a floater element in a Parallax Component, it asks for the file path. In this case, it’s https://story.bloodreddeathray.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/char_band_full_dss_04.jpg. Is that not the correct format? I also tried ../uploads/2014/11/char_band_full_dss_04.jpg, but the text is displayed, rather than an image.
Finally finally: I still have the problem that a Component cannot be edited … when I try to edit it, it climbs up to the top of the post and marries itself to the component that resides there, breaking them both.

I cannot get your video to load on my wordpress site either, however the URL does play the video fine on its own. I’ve asked Nick to take a look.
The floater element does work with the Parallax component. The instructions there state “To use an image, use the full HTML tag without quotes around the image path.” Be sure you’re using full html to insert the image.
Regarding PDFs, you simply click the PDF icon to open the PDF below it. Screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/IOckO9jV
