    Oh, the extra space around the quote is padding, which you can see in this screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/lHCE7Sjgw. You can overwrite the padding by writing custom CSS code.

    I don’t think there is a maximum amount of text allowed. Feel free to go nuts. πŸ™‚

    Hi Gary. Unfortunately, it’s not easily possible to add html to a shortcode because the shortcode includes quotation marks. Once you add another shortcode, it ends the shortcode code and messes everything up.

    You can try using the CSS ‘before’ and ‘after’ properties. Check out https://css-tricks.com/almanac/selectors/a/after-and-before/ for tips.

    Hi Cosmin. Scanning through your site, I found one thumbnail gallery at https://teleleu.eu/ziarul-cetatii/. The only thing I see wrong with this gallery is that it is set to 338px width. You can adjust this (or remove the width value) by editing the gallery itself.

    Jenny @ Aesop
    Keymaster

    Hi Adhytia. You can learn more about the video component, including setting the width, at https://aesopstoryengine.com/help/video-component/.

    It is possible that there was some sort of error in the page that caused the video to not work properly. Please let us know if it happens again.

    I cannot figure this one out. It looks like the content above that area is not closing out correctly. The text you see inside the blue part actually shows on other posts so it’s like the quote component (or something) isn’t closing properly.

    Can you temporarily try moving the quote somewhere else, like higher in the post? And/or moving the parallax image. Process of elimination. πŸ™‚

    These should work. As I mentioned above, use Simple Custom CSS to save your CSS:

    /* Remove author line on single posts */
    .novella-entry .novella-entry-mast .novella-entry-author {

    }

    To add to this, you can try using this section of code and possibly setting your max-width value (be sure to use the plugin Michael recommended above for your CSS):

    /* Default settings for homepage grid */
    .novella-collection-item {
        min-height: 300px;
        width: 100%;
    }

    Love the idea though! Would like to see it in action when you’re done.

    I cannot get your video to load on my wordpress site either, however the URL does play the video fine on its own. I’ve asked Nick to take a look.

    The floater element does work with the Parallax component. The instructions there state “To use an image, use the full HTML tag without quotes around the image path.” Be sure you’re using full html to insert the image.

    Hi Andreas. The images in your first post actually look perfect – I don’t see any issues there.

    In the second link (the sequenced images), the URLs do not have a source image. For all of them, the img source URL is simple a < . I advise editing the gallery and checking that the source URLs are correct. Be sure you have the latest version of Aesop (1.2.1) as the gallery is easily editable now. Even inserting a gallery into a page has been simplified (just select from a dropdown box). Hope that helps!

    Hi Anne and thanks for your post.

    At this time we do not have anything in place that allows you to do something like this. If you know a little bit about coding, you could always create a child theme, copy the header from the front page template and put it in the blog post template (be sure to copy these files to your child theme and edit those; don’t edit core files).

    This is a great idea however and I have added it to our suggestion box. πŸ™‚

    Hi UConn! Once you understand how the inspector in Chrome works, it’ll make things a lot easier. If you’re not familiar with how to use CSS inspector in Chrome, it’s super easy to use and will make finding the css classes that you’ll need when you want to change the design. Here’s a great in-depth article about this: https://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/developertools/part1/

    In your example above, just using body isn’t specific enough and is too general, but using the same code and adding .single to it works fine. (FYI .single targets single posts, not pages, the blog page, etc. They all have their own class name). This CSS works fine:

    body .single {
        font-family: "Libre Baskerville",serif;
        line-height: 1.8;
        color: #3E3E3E;
        font-weight: 400;
    }

    Here is a screenshot of what you should look for in the inspector. https://www.screencast.com/t/CngVgkTUx Just change out .single for whatever you are trying to target, test your changes, and hope for the best. πŸ™‚

    Can you try changing the second one to:

    in reply to: Interaction with bootstrap.min.css #4842

    If Bootstrap is overwriting the Novella CSS, then what you’ll probably need to do (kinda guessing here) is to use the custom CSS plugin, copy the styles over from Novella that are being overwritten and paste them in the CSS plugin. The CSS plugin should overwrite the Bootstrap CSS.

    I recommend testing with a single CSS style first so that way you aren’t doing a bunch of work for nothing. Also, I advise putting the word body in front of your custom CSS like body .novella-header {color: #FFF;} to be sure your CSS is specific enough to overwrite the Bootstrap styles.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Elias. Thanks for your reply.

    I have logged a bug in our system about the vertical image styles not rendering properly (as well as the captions). We will try to include a fix for this in our next release. you will know when the changes have been included in an update by viewing the “what’s new” link when you see an update notification.

    Please know that the custom CSS (http://www.eliaskunosson.com/?sccss=1&ver=4.0), not your child theme, that you’re using is causing the Novella styles to not display properly. Please view your post in comparison to mine at https://aesop.simplemama.com/we-tread-again/ (your pic is at the bottom). The styles are different, especially the image caption.

    Hi there UConn. I think I mentioned this to you in another post but I’ll add it here as well.

    You should always put custom CSS in an external plugin. When an Aesop theme is updated, any CSS you add/edit in the core files will be erased, and we certainly don’t want that! πŸ˜‰ Please use a plugin such as Simple Custom CSS (https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/) and add your custom CSS there instead.

    Also, when writing PHP code to use with a theme, I recommend using a plugin like Code Snippets to save your PHP (https://wordpress.org/plugins/code-snippets/). Using this plugin, your PHP code will be safe and will not be overwritten with Aesop updates.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Cory. Having a video as a featured image isn’t something that can be done within Aesop. The New York Times Aesop site is heavily modified. For example, if you use the Chrome inspector tool, you will see that the video section is completely custom coded by them (one example has a CSS class of “nytmm_fs_video”).

    Your best option will be to find a plugin on WordPress that will allow you to use a video as a featured image, instead of an image. Even with a plugin, you may need to write some custom code to tweak it exactly as you want it to appear.

    Sorry I can’t be of more help!

    Hi Elias! Sorry for the delay. I was out having my wisdom teeth pulled. πŸ™ So we’ve figured out the issue. Your styles are completely different than my test site but your child theme CSS file has no custom code in it. After some researching, we found this https://www.eliaskunosson.com/?sccss=1&ver=4.0. This code is causing your styles to not display correctly. In the FireFox or Chrome dev tools, if you disable that CSS completely, the site styles are perfect. It looks like you’re loading those with a plugin called WP-SCSS (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-scss/). I recommend removing those custom styles.

    @Todd You should always put custom CSS in an external plugin.

    Can you verify what version of Novella you are running?

    Hi Sophie. Those strings are not yet translatable but the bug ticket I submitted on Sept 29 is in the system. It will be included in a future update for Novella. Be sure to read the “what’s new” link in WordPress when you’re prompted for a Novella update to see if the string translations were included.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Elias – no problem, happy to help!

    For the vertical image / caption alignment problem, can you please upload a copy of an image I can use to test at imgur.com ? Please provide me with a link to the image.

    Regarding the content component, have you tried hitting the enter/return key on your keyboard in order to go to a new line (below the component)? Basically, enter down until your cursor is no longer inside the component.

    Thanks for the information! That was much easier to follow. πŸ™‚

    The image you are referring to is part of a stacked parallax-style gallery. You create the gallery using the Gallery menu in the WordPress admin. Then you add the gallery to your post but inserting a Gallery component and selecting it from the drop down box.

    Set the width for the gallery in the Gallery menu (in the WP admin) as well. Just look for “Main Gallery Width”.

    The only thing you can’t do is have floating text on galleries. If you want to do that, you’ll have to use the image component instead, use the floater option, and then write some CSS to make multiple images follow one after the other and full-width (this will be a bit of work!).

    Hope that helps!

    Do you have the Parallax Header option checked under Appearance –> Customize –> Novella Options?

    Actually, I was finally able to figure out which post was causing you the issue. On https://25years.redeemer.com/church-planting/ you are using what looks to be a collection, correct? It looks like the styles for collections are missing for mobile devices. I am logging a bug report for this. We’ll get an update out asap.

    Thanks!

    Hi Redeemer.

    I don’t have an iPhone to test on but using the Chrome emulator for an iPhone 4, I’m getting this:

    Single post: https://i.imgur.com/HYI9ZCd.png

    You can do testing on this site too which is pretty handy! https://responsive.nutsandboltsmedia.com/

    Hi Redeemer. Yes you will definitely be notified about theme updates in the dashboard. And to see what items were fixed/updated, simply click the link in the update notification to find out what’s new. πŸ™‚ You can also view the changes on the individual theme page by clicking the changelog link.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Sean. Welcome to Aesop!

    I’m glad you’ve figured out the chapter image issue. Toggling that option off will definitely do the trick.

    For the parallax effect, be sure you have visited Appearance –> Customize –> Novella Options, then check the box for “Parallax Header”.

    Regarding CSS edits, you should always put custom CSS in an external plugin.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Redeemer.

    This looks to be some sort of bug. When I inspect the code of the site, the first 4 grid items are a kerouac-collection-row, which is good, but then ALL other grid items make up the next kerouac-collection-row. Since all other grid items make up one row (instead of multiple rows) the 20px bottom margin is only being applied at the very bottom.

    I am submitting this bug to our tracking system. Hopefully we’ll get a fix sent out for this soon. Thanks for reporting it! (If the developer says this is something specific to your site, I will let you know.)

    Hello Redeemer.

    I am using the emulator on Chrome and the front page is displaying fine on iPhone 4 & 5. Have you tried refreshing the page? Perhaps the cache needs cleared or the network wasn’t loading it properly.

    Inner pages, however, are not displaying properly (like https://www.redeemer.com/visit/25th_anniversary/25_years_of_changed_lives/ for example). It looks like these aren’t on Aesop though.

    Hi Todd. Welcome to Aesop! You chose a great theme with Novella. πŸ™‚

    After you’ve edited a component, try to hit the “enter” key on your keyboard so the cursor goes outside of the editor box. That should do the trick. Please let me know!

    Hi Sophie.

    I’ve checked out a test site for Novella, as well as conferred with our developers, and yes the chapter menu icon is supposed to appear toward the bottom right of the screen. This is how it was designed to display (also, the Aesop Story Highlights plugin functions this way as well).

    I have added a bug report to our system so we can make those strings translatable.

    I have also emailed one of our developers so French can be added to the translation center. Please visit the translation center in a day or two, look for French, and feel free to start helping with the translation project.

    Hello Dr RaShon.

    You load the add-ons just as you do with Aesop Story Engine. Each is installed as a plugin. The only things that install differently are themes.

    Please visit https://aesopstoryengine.com/quick-start-guide/ if you need a little more guidance.

    Hi Elias.

    Linking to demo pages doesn’t work so well. Please tell me which theme demo to look at, as well as the title of the post, then point me to the part of the post to look at. Linking would be much easier! lol

    The image size is calculated with this option:

    Image Width – Width of the image. You can enter the size as 40% or 500px.
