    Hi Joakim. My apologies for the delay in responding. I was not subscribed to this forum for notifications but that is all fixed now! Sorry about that.

    Kerouac does not have styling for submenus but it does have styling for top-level navigation. I will certainly add a feature request for you to enable the option to use submenus. Hopefully we can get this added in a future version.

    Hi Anke!

    The new chapters layout does not have a close button but I will make a note of your request for the developers.

    In the meantime, just click anywhere outside the chapter menu to close it.

    Hi there!

    I’ve done some testing with various floaterposition options and it seems that center is behaving exactly the same as left. I’ll bring this to the attention of the developers and we’ll get it fixed up.

    Thanks for letting us know! ๐Ÿ™‚

    in reply to: Video questions #2815
    Jenny @ Aesop

    Hi Gregg. Thanks for posting! To answer your questions:

    1. The video background option in the Chapter component doesn’t have the auto start/stop function. What I recommend doing is using the Video component instead. You will most likely be able to achieve the same type of layout / effect. Let me know how this works for you!

    2. We do not have a header add-on available at this time but it has been suggested before and we hope to create an add-on in the future. The easiest way will be to use a hook to insert your graphic. The available hooks are listed at https://aesopstoryengine.com/developers/. I recommend using a plugin like Code Snippets to save your PHP (https://wordpress.org/plugins/code-snippets/). Using this plugin, your PHP code will be safe and will not be overwritten with Aesop updates. Nick wrote up an awesome tutorial on hooks/filters too. You can check it out at https://aesopstoryengine.com/tutorials/using-aesop-filters/.

    3. I would recommend trying to use a WordPress plugin for this. A quick Google search shows these two: https://wordpress.org/plugins/featured-video-plus/ and https://wordpress.org/plugins/replace-featured-image-with-video/

    Hope that helps!

    Thank you for the suggestion, Vadim. We will get this added to the documentation.

    For adding Facebook like and share buttons, you can find out more at https://developers.facebook.com/products/sharing/.

    You can also use a WordPress plugin. Several are available at https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=facebook+like+share&sort=

    Can you provide me with a link to your site so I can take a look at what is ouputting? Also, if you can share the shortcodes you’re using (just paste them inside code tags), that would help as well.

    I’m not sure if I completely understand what you’re saying but I tried what I think you did (using 3 separate Content components) and got all 3 in a column, one on top of the other:

    [aesop_content color="#ffffff" background="#333333" width="33%" columns="1" position="left" imgrepeat="no-repeat"]All your normal text goes here.[/aesop_content]
    [aesop_content color="#ffffff" background="#333333" position="none" width="33%" columns="1" img="http://aesop.simplemama.com/files/2014/06/Hana-Bamboo-Maui-Hawaii.jpg" imgrepeat="no-repeat"]All your normal text goes here.[/aesop_content]
    [aesop_content color="#ffffff" background="#333333" width="33%" columns="1" position="right" imgrepeat="no-repeat"]All your normal text goes here.[/aesop_content]

    I believe you are wanting them to all be in a line horizontally, correct? If so, I think the easiest way to do that is to use just 1 Content component and insert the text/image/text with HTML & CSS.

    Something like this maybe:

    [aesop_content color="#ffffff" background="#333333" columns="3" position="none" imgrepeat="no-repeat"]All your normal text goes here. <img src="http://aesop.simplemama.com/files/2014/06/Hana-Bamboo-Maui-Hawaii.jpg" /> All your normal text goes here.[/aesop_content]

    You’ll probably need to add some inline CSS in there for the image but it’s working on my end. ๐Ÿ™‚

    in reply to: Can't activate social buttoms #2795
    Jenny @ Aesop

    Hi Vadim. Are you using an Aesop theme or another WordPress theme? All Aesop themes have the Aesop Social icons integrated but other WordPress themes most likely will not.

    Aesop Social is moreso about properly sharing your content on the web with the integration of Twitter meta data, Facebook og data, Google+ verification, etc. The social icons displaying is a perk of using the plugin within an Aesop theme.

    With that said, if you’re using a third party WordPress theme that doesn’t support Aesop Social, you are welcome to utilize the icons via the PHP hook do_action('ase_addon_social_links');

    Full documentation on Aesop Social is available at https://aesopstoryengine.com/product-documentation/ (including information about the hooks/filters). If you’d like to learn more about using Aesop hooks/filters, please read over our blog post on the subject at https://aesopstoryengine.com/tutorials/using-aesop-filters/

    Hello again Marc-Andrรฉ. Thanks for the follow-up information.

    To enable the front page header in Jorgen, be sure to visit WP-admin –> Appearance –> Customize –> Jorgen Options then check the box next to “Enable Front Page Header”. Further documentation for Jorgen is available at https://aesopstoryengine.com/product-documentation/.

    Regarding a footer widget, this is something that has been requested previously and it’s on our list of potential add-ons. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Also, I wanted to note that this script is creating queries every second or two on your site which can cause bandwidth and loading issues:

    [aesop_audio src="xx" viewstart="off" viewend="on" loop="off" hidden="off"]

    Hi Charles!

    I’m not sure what you did in the Simple Custom CSS. Did you copy the entire style.css file and paste it in there? If so, you don’t need to do that. Just copy and paste what I provided you above into Simple Custom CSS and save. There should be nothing else there except for what I provided above. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Charles-Henry. Do you have any custom CSS written? That’s definitely not normal behavior so I wanted to double check. To fix this, you can use custom CSS.

    To alter the appearance with CSS, you can use something like:

    .postid-146 .jorgen-entry-content {
        padding-top: 0;
    }

    .postid-146 .aesop-component {
        margin-top: 0;
    }

    I recommend using a plugin like Simple Custom CSS to save your CSS (https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/).

    If youโ€™re not familiar with how to use CSS inspector in Chrome, itโ€™s super easy to use and will make finding the css classes that youโ€™ll need when you want to change the design. Hereโ€™s a great in-depth article about this: https://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/developertools/part1/

    #2 Make sure Aesop Story Front and Jorgen are up to date. The Story Front bug was fixed in a previous release. Note: You will get automatic updates if you enter your license key in your WP admin. See the Plugins and the Appearance menus for license additions.

    #3 This is actually a bug with Aesop Story Front. I have noted this to be fixed. Deactivate Aesop Story Front for these options to work.

    You can actually hide the “Story by” line with custom CSS code, like this:

    I just added the following shortcode (via the video component) on my testing site and it worked fine.

    [aesop_video width="640px" align="center" src="youtube" id="t2mU6USTBRE?rel=0" loop="on" autoplay="on" controls="off" viewstart="off" viewend="off"]

    Hi Poul. Glad the CSS fix worked. ๐Ÿ™‚

    With regard to the social sharing image, I tried it out on my testing site and it is working properly for me. Meaning: The first image that is displayed (to share on Facebook) is in fact the featured image. If I arrow through the choices on Facebook, the rest of the images in the post are available.

    With that said, I’m guessing that the featured image isn’t set correctly. I know that we spent a lot of time developing the sharing features to make sure it worked perfectly. Here’s a screenshot so you can be sure that you’re setting the right option: https://i.imgur.com/xqoQ5Q0.png

    If you have that set correctly and it still isn’t working, I would recommend deactivating your other wordpress plugins and see if that fixes it. There are several plugins out there that alter your sharing ability.

    Ok, reporting back! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Social Sharing Toolkit does work fine with Jorgen. You need to do two things to set up the plugin otherwise it has nothing to display:

    1. Settings –> Social Sharing Toolkit –> General Settings: Select something for “Button location”. SAVE.
    2. Settings –> Social Sharing Toolkit –> Content: Check the boxes for the social sharing platforms you want to use. Then pick a “Button orientation” at the bottom. SAVE.

    Refresh your site and you’ll see the icons!

    Note: If you choose “horizontal” for the “Button orientation”, the icons will be floated to the left of the page, if you want to center them, use the following custom CSS code:

    .mr_social_sharing_wrapper {
      text-align: center;
    }

    body .jorgen-story-header .jorgen-go-home {

    It looks like you’re not being specific enough with your CSS. For example, the #jorgen-comments-wrap .collapse code works great but the “body” and “p” are not specific enough. For example, I used your code on my site and when inspecting with Chrome, I see the “red” body color is crossed out. Screenshot: https://imgur.com/xvCwame

    To find what you need to change, use the Chrome inspector and go through elements adding background: red to different ones until you find the one that actually changes the background color from white to red. This article provides a lot of information on this subject: https://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/developertools/part1/

    And when you get down to the .jorgen-entry-content class, you’ll see it says background: #fff and that’s what you need to overwrite. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hi Anke.

    Yes, we have noted that Andersen requires the same @import fixes. We will double check all others to be sure.

    I addressed the translation strings in your other post.

    When we issue the fix for the child theme styles, we will be sure everything is working correctly before released. In the meantime, you can write some custom CSS to change the black background if you need to.

    Hi Nicolas!

    #1 This is actually a small bug with the scrollnav feature. I have logged this issue in our bug system. We’ll try to get a fix out asap. In the meantime, this CSS fix should work:

    .scroll-nav__section {
      padding-top: 5%;
      margin-top: -5%;
    }

    #2 Close! Try:

    h2.aesop-timeline-stop {
      display: none;
    }

    #3 When writing PHP code to use with a theme, I recommend using a plugin like Code Snippets to save your PHP (https://wordpress.org/plugins/code-snippets/). Using this plugin, your PHP code will be safe and will not be overwritten with Aesop updates.

    Nick wrote up an awesome tutorial on filters too. You can check it out at https://aesopstoryengine.com/tutorials/using-aesop-filters/.

    To change the “Written by” text in Jorgen, use the following code:

    add_filter("my_written_by","jorgen_written_by");

    function my_written_by() {
      return "New Text";
    }

    Just replace “New Text” with your desired text, including the author names.

    #4 I’m not sure what you mean by this. Can you provide an example? Have you tried in multiple browsers (in case it’s a browser issue)?

    #5 I can’t find the gallery on the page so I’m not sure which one you’re talking about. My suggestion is to make sure it isn’t included in the WP Gallery and be sure you’ve used the correct shortcode in your post (ex: [aesop_gallery id="150"])

    Hope this helps!

    Okay, update on this!

    The child theme I emailed you is fine. We did find a couple bugs in the parent theme that need fixing. We are planning to push the update out to Jorgen in the next 3-4 days. I advise waiting for the update. If you absolutely cannot wait for the update, here is what you need to do:

    Visit /themes/jorgen/style.css and add this line below the last */

    @import "assets/css/style.css";

    Visit /themes/jorgen/inc/scripts.php (or you can click “scripts.php” if you’re using the wordpress theme editor). Toward the top, Look for:

    wp_enqueue_style('jorgen-style', get_stylesheet_directory_uri().'/assets/css/style.css', JORGEN_THEME_VERSION, true);

    and replace that line with:

    wp_enqueue_style('jorgen-style', get_stylesheet_directory_uri().'/style.css', JORGEN_THEME_VERSION, true);

    Again, an update will be out for this soon. Thanks again!

    #2: Okay I see the image gallery you are talking about. What’s happening here is the gallery is keeping the width at full value and then scales the height down to match. You are still seeing the full image, it’s just smaller (in the same ratio as the original image). I did some back and forth testing between the first image shown in the gallery and the original image and they are the same, it’s just smaller. This will also change as your browser width change. It’s what makes the image gallery “responsive”. ๐Ÿ™‚

    #3: That’s a margin added to all components. You can overwrite this with custom CSS. This code will change ALL component top/bottom margins to 0:

    .aesop-component {
        margin: 0 auto !important;
    }

    #4: The gallery specified is using the “grid” gallery type. The gallery type can be changed to “thumbnail” and the captions will show. The caption option is not available on the “grid” gallery type at this time but I have noted it for the developers to add this feature.

    Happy to help!

    Hi Miles! The ability to have multiple authors listed under โ€œwritten byโ€ isnโ€™t available yet but will be soon! In about 2-3 weeks, expect an update that will add support for sites using the Co-Authors Plus WordPress plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/co-authors-plus/). Once support has been added to Aesop, just download and install the Co-Authors Plus plugin and youโ€™ll get exactly what youโ€™re looking for.

    Hi Anke. The theme does not have that option, however, it is possible with custom CSS.

    Make sure you are using a CSS plugin, like Simple Custom CSS (http://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/), then paste this CSS in the Simple Custom CSS box:

    #jorgen-comments-wrap .collapse {
      height: auto !important;
      display: block !important;
    }

    Again, do NOT put this code in the theme’s CSS file.

    Hi Anke.

    Your owner’s manual will provide some insight on how to create a child theme. You can find the owner’s manual download in your Aesop account at https://aesopstoryengine.com/account/.

    For your reference, you need to add the @ import for the default styles, like this: https://screencast.com/t/ti3iRpNecQt

    It looks like you have a space between @ and import. If so, remove that.

    With Jorgen, you can activate the header menu by visiting WP-Admin –> Appearance –> Customize –> Jorgen Options –> then check “Enable Front Page header”. This adds a site title, social icons (if you have the Aesop Social Addon), and pop-out menu on the right.

    For the footer widget area, there are several plugins on the WordPress site that can accomplish this, such as:

    There are probably some for the header too! Just perform a keyword search at https://wordpress.org/plugins/.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Poul. I hope you and the students have enjoyed toying with Aesop. ๐Ÿ™‚ And you’re very welcome! To answer your questions:

    1. It is not possible with any built-in options but it is possible with custom CSS code. For example, this CSS code will make each story span 50% of the page width:

      .jorgen-story-collection .jorgen-collection-item {
          width: 50%;
      }

      If you’re writing custom CSS code, using a plugin like Simple Custom CSS to save your code. https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/

    2. I’m not sure what you’re referring to exactly. Can you provide a link to an example or a screenshot?
    3. For this one also, can you provide a link or a screenshot? Or even just letting me know which components you are seeing this on. I’m guessing it is just margin or padding of the area.
    4. The “thumbnail” and “sequence” galleries do show the captions. The “grid” and “stacked parallax” galleries do not.

    Thanks for your reply, Anke.

    If you take a look at the Andersen product page (http://aesopstoryengine.com/library/andersen/), you will see that the customization options include “text, link, and background color controls”. The documentation does not state any of the options you are requesting. You can, of course, always change these things with custom CSS (if you are familiar with CSS). As I stated previously, you should use the plugin Simple Custom CSS to write/save your CSS (https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/) – never ever edit the core files.

    Background colors, text colors, widths, heights, fonts, and more are easily changeable by writing a little CSS.

    Since you mentioned Jorgen, take a look at the options available with Jorgen at https://aesopstoryengine.com/library/jorgen/. The options for Jorgen are the same.. “text, link, and background color controls”.

    Also, you should never be editing the core less files. To alter the appearance with CSS, I recommend using a plugin like Simple Custom CSS to save your CSS (https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/).

    Hi Poul. My apologies for not being clear. The Aesop map component uses Mapbox to display maps. By default, you automatically use the Aesop account to show your maps. The downside is that it has view limits. Could you try creating an account and entering your Mapbox ID at WP admin โ€“> Appearance โ€“> Customize โ€“> Aesop Story Engine (don’t forget to save) to see if that helps?

    My test site had the map grey also, but when I created a Mapbox account and used my own Mapbox ID, the map worked.

    in reply to: Map not showing #1828
    Jenny @ Aesop

    Hi Poul. After a bit of debugging, it looks like the issue (at least in my testing) is related to the mapbox ID. If you have not yet signed up for a Mapbox account, you are using Aesop’s Mapbox ID by default which has a 10k/month view limit. The map is grey because we’ve hit that limit already.

    To fix this, simply sign up for a Mapbox account (https://www.mapbox.com/#signup) and enter your Mapbox Map ID where indicated at WP admin –> Appearance –> Customize –> Aesop Story Engine. Don’t forget to save!

    Please let us know if that corrects your issue.

    Hi Poul! Glad you figured #2 out. ๐Ÿ™‚

    #1 is actually any easy fix, just edit your post and add text in the “excerpt” field. Whatever is in the “excerpt” field will display on the grid, instead of the post text.

    Note: if your excerpt field isn’t showing on the post editor, click the “screen options” button on the top right of wordpress and check the appropriate box.

    Hope that helps!
